MyFootballClub

MyFootballClub is an experiment in football management using the 'wisdom of crowds'. After acheiving the target of 50,000 members registering interest, at the beginning of August 2007 they then opened up the next phase which is to get as many people as they can to pay the £35 joining fee.

The idea being MyFootballClub is to get 50,000 members (or as close as possible) to each pay a £35 joining fee, then with that money go and buy a professional football club in one of the English leagues. All the members will become effectively board members who then get to vote on transfers, team selection and other football club related matters from buying a new stadium to choosing new flavours of pie at half-time.

Join MyFootballClub

I've joined up and so far it's been great even though no club has been bought yet. There's quite a few people already signed up and paid their joining fee, maybe 5,000 to 8,000 people? There's a real buzz about the forums and everyone is up for doing well. EA Sports has already committed to a sponsorshp deal of some form and 4 clubs have approached MyFootballClub about being taken over.

It's all registered with the proper authorities and has experts helping out behind the scenes, so it ain't a con, but will it work? Is it a good idea? Can 50,000 football fans do any better than some of the current owners and managers out there? Shouldn't be too hard should it?
