Are You A Hero?

Last night I watched a good documentary (The God Who Wasn't There - http://www.thegodmovie.com - recommended), anyway one thing that was mentioned was that an author called Lord Raglan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Raglan_(author) ) had proposed 22 points that many Hero's have in his book 'The Hero'.

Below are those points. I thought it would be fun for all of us to go through them and try to pick out as many as we could, no matter how weak or unglorious your reasons, to see where we rank in the hero scale. (Ladies - obviously swap some of the genders below to become a Heroine).

1. The hero's mother is a royal virgin
2. His father is a king and
3. often a near relative of the mother, but
4. the circumstances of his conception are unusual, and
5. he is also reputed to be the son of a god
6. at birth an attempt is made, usually by his father or maternal grandfather, to kill him, but
7. He is spirited away, and
8. Reared by foster-parents in a far country
9. We are told nothing of his childhood, but
10. On reaching manhood he returns or goes to his future kingdom.
11. After a victory over the king and or giant, dragon, or wild beast
12. He marries a princess, often the daughter of his predecessor and
13. becomes king
14. For a time he reigns uneventfully and
15. Prescribes laws but
16. later loses favor with the gods and or his people and
17. Is driven from from the throne and the city after which
18. He meets with a mysterious death
19. often at the top of a hill.
20. his children, if any, do not succeed him.
21. his body is not buried, but nevertheless
22. he has one or more holy sepulchres.

5. When I was born my Dad said "Holy Jesus fucking Christ, what the fuck is that?!!"
7. When I was young we moved from one town to another.
11. In the school tennis tournament I beat the No.2 seed 6-3 to progress into the semi-final.
14. Alot of my life has been uneventful.
16. I don't believe in God so I'm sure they don't like me. I've also pissed friends off before.
17. I wasn't so much driven out, rather, I left of my own free will.

6/22 - not bad. Just need to marry a princess and arrange my death methodically and I'm up there with Apollo.

7. Lived in 6 city's in the last 5 years!
8. Lived as an exchange student in Thailand for a year.
9. There is not alot of info on my childhood, my big sister and brother took the limelight away from myself

17. Is driven from from the throne and the city after which - yep, you guessed it, im moving next month.

I didn't see this before. Here goes...

1. She wasn't royal, but she was a virgin
4. The condom broke (although they were married, they weren't ready for kids yet)

7. During the teen years, I moved about once a year
9. The time when dad was around isn't worth mentioning, anyway
10. On reaching 18, I moved away to college
11. During college, was introducted to bovine bingo
15. Law and policy is my current trade.
16. Yeah, I've ticked off some friends
17. Left the city to get piece and quiet. A year later, left the country to get high speed internet and cable (and a shorter commute to work).
20. No kids...no succession
