I'm putting together a cheesy CD of English related songs for when I fly back to England for a week and take my American girlfriend with me. I thought it might be fun whilst we're flying over as she hates flying. I got the idea from Professor Puke as he sent me a 'Welcome to America' CD a couple of years back....cheers, Prof.
So, I'm trying to rack my brains for typically English style songs. So far I have: London Calling - Clash God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols Half English - Billy Bragg That's Entertainment - The Jam Whipping Picadilly - Gomez The National Anthem - Radiohead Ballad of John and Yoko - The Beatles Has anyone got Round Are Way by Oasis they can send me? I got it back in Blighty and it ain't on iTunes. Any tunes will do, as long as they inject you with a nostalgic memory of the Motherland. I don't know any Smiths, New Order, Depeche Mode and 80's stuff, so there's probably a whole load I'm missing. btw Elton John - Made in England, is not allowed for very many obvious reasons. |

Shoplifters Of The World or How Soon Is Now? by the Smiths are good ones.
Just look for their 'Singles' titled album which has some decent tracks on it. Might as well get The Violence of Truth by THE THE Behind The Wheel or Fly On The Windscreen by Depeche Mode are good tracks. Look for DM '101' or 'Black Celebration' for those. Are 'Friends' Electric? by Gary Numan & Tubeway Army is a good one. Blue Monday by New Order is a definite must have. Might as well throw in Atmosphere by Joy Division. The Fall from Manchester were also an excellent late 70's/80's band I recommend checking out any of their albums for your track choice. Good choices so far w/ Clash, Radiohead, Beatles, add some punk/new wave stuff here Ben and it'll be Happy Flying. 8 ) |

Nice. New Order, of course...but you know what, I went with 'World In Motion' cause it's the second best England football song out there.
Madness - House of Fun. Gotta have some Madness! (just read the lyrics, never knew it was about trying to buy condoms!!) |

Hot and wet, eh?
I wouldn't put it past Buster Poindexter a.k.a. David Johansen of NY Dolls. David was NOT so hot hot hot.Looky there his expression says he is feeling wet, then one fateful day, he became BUSTER. Still...not so hot hot hot. And his expression says 'I just peed meself'. "Feeling wet wet wet!" Nice song selection Ben. You should fall asleep by the end of 'I want a cup of tea' possibly to be awakened by a man in a turban wielding a plastic spork in your face.

You've got to put on Ghost Town by The Specials.
