If, in some bizarre incident, a player takes a shot and the ball deflects off the ref and into the net, does the goal stand? If not, what happens, drop ball, free kick, total mayhem??
Also, why don't teams wait until the goalie has the ball, and then he places it on a defenders shoulder so the defender can hold the ball in the crook of his neck using the shoulder and his head (with his arm in the air, like the shot putt position), and then sprint down the pitch and launch himself into the oppositions net?
I've just tried it, you'd need someone with long arms and a big chin - a cross between Bruce Forsyth and Kareem Abdul Jabba. Thankfully I don't look like that, so I can't do it.
