Songs of Distant Earth by Arthur C.Clark.

I don't know what it is, but I'm entering a Sci-fi reading frenzy. This one is basicaly about The Sun goes supernova and the inhabitants of Earth have to relocate to different planets. This isn't a sudden thing, people have known for hundreds of years, which is just as wellas these things take time planning. Imagine if we all had to leave now on the Space Shuttle and Beagle 2 - we'd be shafted.

So the last ship to leave Earth stops off at a planet to get some shit, and this planet has been colonised for about 700 years.....and the story unfolds form there.

Good read. Arthur C.Clark is apparently a stickler for scientific correctness so the whole thing is very believable. The most bizarre fact I learnt from the book was - there is enough energy in the vacuum of a light bulb to destroy the whole of our solar system.

I'm now working in the dark.

on NPR yesterday i heard a review of EL Doctorow's new book of 5 short stories. i think i might go and get it. sounded very "waste land-ish" so it would be right up my ally. i bought 5 books last week and have 3 more of them left to read...but if i do pick up the Doctorow book...i'll post a review.

has anyone else read it?
