I, Robot by Isaac Asimov.

Just finished reading this and it was great. One of the best books I've read. It's about 8 (or is it 9) short stories that are all interlinked via a journalist interviewing a Robot expert. The stories are in chronological order so you can see how robots advance and human's with them.

Fundamental are the 3 laws, inorder of importance they are basically - Robots can't kill, robots have to listen to humans, and robots should try and protect themselves from harm.

The stories all revolve around these three laws and how the robots interpret these laws through different dilemmas. If you're not a Sci-fi fan then still read this as it's as much about human nature as it is about robots in space.

The book is easy to read. It's technical enough so you can believe that these robots can exist, without going into specifics which would bore and confuse you. The ending is also great. My biggest complaints with books is that they seem to slide down to the end and just get the story finished without leaving you gobsmacked, or finishing on anything thoughtful - this one does though.

I loved this book and I think you will too.

*ending of reading rainbow theme*

I'm reading the Infinity Gauntlet. Actually it's the Infinity Guantlet trade.. It's great so far, and I only see it getting better.

speaking of rather boring endings to otherwise interesting books...William Gibson's Neuromancer was like that for me. Anybody else read it?

No, but it's on my list of 'soon to read books'...should I revise that entry or is it still worth reading?

you should still read it. it is considered a classic of the computer age and like i said - it was pretty interesting up until the ending. maybe you will even like the ending. i thought about reading it again to see if maybe i had been crazy..but i decided to not read it again and still with my first impression.

i did that with the movie Minority Report, too. a friend of mine saw it and told me he lied it until the ending, which he said was a horrible let down. well, a friend of mine and i went to see it. i had told her about my other friend's review and we thought we'd see for ourselves. we totally bought into the premise of the story and thought it looked incredible cool onscreen. then came the ending...not bad actually. pretty good, in fact. it was intense and action packed! then...oh wait, that's not the ending??? there's more? oh yes...well, okay, here is the ending....hmmm..not too bad i guess. what? no way? not the ending???? when it finally came, i was literally bored. my friend felt the same about it, too. when it was on sale cheap in the previously viewed section at blockbuster, i bought it to see if maybe i was nuts. didn't watch it and got rid of it without even opening it up. that movie was actually on a lot of movie critics "best of" lists for the year. i guess some people liked it.

Yeah, I don't remember any part of the trailor being in the book. I think I heard somewhere that the film is not the whole book, but just one chapter 'Little Lost Robot' - I could be wrong though.
