I liked Travis' second album and I liked most of the third album but they were heading into an abyss of mediocrity for me. The 'Turn, Turn, Turn' song started to annoy me immensely although the 'Humpty Dumpty Song' was quality.

Anyway, Christmas just gone I got Travis - 12 Memories, I've only just listened to it 4 months later. I didn't have the stomach to be radically disappointed....so imagine my surprise when I dig it out and listen to it. It's pretty fucking good.

They dumped the fucking banjo and left out the tunes that guarantee a spot on Top of the Pops. I haven't heard what they released as a single off this album, and the good thing is that it isn't obvious what you would release as a single. It's a bit of a grower.

OK, it's not an amazingly different album its not like it's techno or something, you can still tell it's Travis but top marks for doing something else.
