Total dog jank.

Don't get me wrong, I understand it's like observational humour and I know where the gags are meant to be and where I'm meant to laugh/chuckle/say 'O'yeah I hate it when people do that!'.

I've forced myself to watch about 10 episodes to try and understand why so many people say he's a genius, amazing, and even....funny. I don't understand.

The guy can't act for shit. It annoys me when people walk around with the same annoying half-smile he has whilst talking. His barnet is friggin candy floss. The 'crazy guy' is just a dick.

The short bald guy is funny though.

Yanks - watch 'The Office' on BBCAmerica, it won a Golden Globe the other day. Watch it before a US TV company buys the rights and remakes it and totally fucks the script up the arse (like 'Coupling').

compelled to defend primo television programming...

i love seinfeld a whole lot. i don't think jerry is a genius and i agree that he's not a good actor. but it's a situational comedy in the strictest sense. they don't tell jokes. the dialog isn't made that way. it's about situations. really funny ones... accidentally dropping a junior mint into some guy's open wound, for instance. or getting attacked by a bubble boy over a trivial persuit misprint. or staging a delusive "candy bar line-up" at a car dealership following serveral unfortunate twists of fate

another thing i liked about seinfeld is that they neverreally had any continuous plot ambitions. no serious relationships or pregnancies to follow. other sitcoms use those to string audiences along for years. that's cheap. another thing i liked was how lightly death, suicide, murder and all the things that are dealt with way too seriously were handled... the more i think about it, the more i love this show

seinfeld fans are encouraged to check out 'curb you enthusiasm' on hbo. it's starring and written by larry david who wrote all the seinfeld episodes. it's kind of improvisational. really funny i think

i ordered the first season of the office for my sister. she hasn't seen it, but i hope she likes it as much as i do

Prof - nice to see you.

I take your point about stringing people along a la 'will they or won't they type situations' .

I've heard good things about 'Curb your Enthusiasm' too. I haven't got HBO though which is a dog. Is it worth getting? I saw that Larry David guy on The Daily Show a few weeks back and he's one hectic mutha! He was funny.

I like Chapelles Show too.

Dave Chappelle is great.... Fucking rediculously funny.

Oh, and HBO can be good, but it sucks that they rerun movies from teh 80's all the time. all the time.... all the time.

Everybody and their brother watches chappelle's show now, which is good, i'd like to see it move to HBO. But as long as they have the chris rock show, i think thats a no-go.

yet another defense of seinfeld...

my favorite episode is one of the early ones where jerry goes to rent a car and the car rental place doesn't have it when he tries to pick it up. a paraphrase:

jerry: i don't think you know what a reservation means.

car rental lady: sir, i know what a reservation is.

jerry: i don't think you do. see, you know how to take a reservation. anybody can take a reservation (gestures wildly). but you don't know how to hold a reservation and really, the holding is the most important part.

now, i have personally gone to pick up a moving truck from u-haul and even though i reserved 30 days in advance, checked again 2 weeks in advance, and checked on it just a day or two before i picked it up.....when i got there, they didn't have it...and they weren't going to get it. they had a size smaller arriving the next day. jerry was a lot more comical than i was when it happened to me.

Yup. You see, Shiola, therein lies the greatness. It's the first show to really portray things that really DO happen. And yea, some of the comedy is shit, but it's not perfect. Like you.

OK, I'll only accept that Seinfeld maybe mildly amusing if a non-American stands in his corner and defends him.

I've forced a couple more dire episodes down my delicate throat and he still makes me reach and choke snot through my nose....in a bad way.

Would you say Seinfeld is better than Frasier? Seinfeld isn't fit to lick the doggy do-do off of Eddie's paws.

yeah, seinfeld is much funnier than frasier, and it pains me to think you live such a misguided life that you could think anything else. you deserve better than that. maybe invest a little time in some professional help. trust me..you owe it to yourself and all the rest of us.

Dear 'o' dear.

I think Seinfeld holds the key between British and American humour. The guy is upheld as a genius and cultural icon here, but back in 'Ye Olde Worlde' he's seen as a complete jackass that probably molests little farm animals*

I can't believe you think Seinfeld is better than Frasier - a 4 year old is teaching you lot the true path to hilarity Seinfeld is about as funny as Benny Hill who fucking blew chunks!!!!

*may not be true.

I actually like most British humor... but of course lots of it is shit. Most of American humor is shit as well... People just can't be funny.

I vote for the Shiola show.
