View Full Version : Getting Logged Out?

Apparently, Boudicca and a few others are getting chucked out of the Shiola Forum and having to login again all the time. I don't remember adding a iBouncer to the forum but it appears to be happening. I haven't changed anything that might do this....honestly!...I haven't!

Anyway, anyone got any ideas why it might be happening? Is it some software that is deleting cookies? Is your browser/firewall being too strict?

I never have this problem. I use Firefox, what browsers are the problem people using? (Sorry, I don't mean to infer that you're 'Problem People'!!).

I've just accepted it as part of my online experience. We talked about it in group, and I made some lovely macaroni necklaces to deal with my issues.

None of you have anti-spyware/firewall software that is deleting cookies or thinks the site is bad and rejects the cookies?

I have never had any problems and can't work out what it is.

Actually, for me, it is the firewall blocking the cookies. I didn't have the firewall installed a year or two ago when I was getting logged out all the time, but since April, that would be the reason for me. Ben, are you running XP Service Pack 2? I am, and I believe it comes with a personal firewall which I believe would be defaulted to block cookies from shiola because the site lacks a privacy policy.

Actually, that might all be gibberish because I only half know what I'm talking about. But the macaroni necklaces are really nice.

Yeah, I installed it.

Set your browser (in Tools - Options) to allow cookies to be set and for them to stay until they expire. In IE you can specify individual sites to allow them if you don't want to change your whole settings.

I'll look into this privacy policy thing.

Is anyone else having logging in issues at the moment?

(If you keep getting logged out and can't reply to this then write something in the shoutbox on the home page - http://www.shiola.co.uk)

What browser are you using? Do you have a firewall or Norton blocking you, or any other anti-virus stuff? Have you checked the settings on it?

I've been doing some more investigating for the users that are getting logged out for no reason. Try doing the following which is a fix posted on another forum:

Please do the following steps exactly as described, exactly in order:

Note - one or all of these should have an immediate effect if you are using either IE or Firefox. If you are using Mozilla (Netscape) and have these problems - you may have to go into your file manager and delete temp files from there.

************************************************** *********

1. Do a "hard refresh" in your browser window - which means press CTRL F5 (press and hold the CTRL key and then the F5 key)

Try posting again and see if you still have the same problems. If yes (same problem still happening),

************************************************** *********

2. Use the following address to force cookie clearing - http://www.shiola.co.uk/forum/mycookies.php

(READ THE COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS before following the link)
Select (put a checkmark in) all boxes - even if there is no cookie listed on the page, click Delete.

When you are returned to the page, LOG OUT of the forums (if you are logged in), CLOSE THE BROWSER (and all other browser windows that may be open), and re-open the forums by typing in the address http://www.shiola.co.uk/forum/index.php and log in again.

BE SURE TO put a checkmark in the "Remember Me" box when you log in.

If you have the forums in your favorites (or bookmarks), remove it and do a new favorite or bookmark once you are logged back in.

Try posting again and see if the problem is resolved.

************************************************** *********

3. If you are still not able to log in and you have performed steps 1 AND 2 EXACTLY as shown, go to Tools; Internet Options and delete Temp files and cookies there.

Log OUT of the forums (if you are logged in), close all browser windows, delete the URL from your favorites (or bookmarks), and reopen a browser window and type in the http://www.shiola.co.uk/forum/index.php address and log in again.

BE SURE TO put a checkmark in the "Remember Me" box when you log in.

Try posting again and see if the problem is resolved.

************************************************** *********

If you have done EVERYTHING IN THIS THREAD - EXACTLY and in the order posted - then post here if able or email me (forum at shiola.co.uk) with:

Your Username
Browser you use and version
Operating system and version
Which problem you still have (can't log in, can't log out, can't use emoticons)

Please don't skip any of the steps.

You could also try these steps too:
Delete all your temporary pages
Clear cache
Check your security settings
Set shiola.co.uk as a trusted site
Make sure your firewall/ant-virus software is not too strict or not allowing forum cookie

I've noticed the 'Post Reply' link seems to hang up a bit during posting messages today.

TG for quick reply.
