And I mean every word! I have a neighbor who lives across the street who happens to be a lying gossip and a busybody. Every fall, she had the nerve to rearrange the leaf piles on the street in front of my house just so she could park her car there! (She had three cars and no driveway or garage.) And she's always at her next-door neighbor's house gossiping when she is not at work at her little janitor job at the local school. She is also the type whose limited intelligence does not respond well to reasoning.

Everyone else in our neighborhood minds their own business except Mrs. Blabbermouth.

I wise Australian person once said;

Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours,
With a little understanding,
You can find the perfect plan.
Neighbours, should be there for one another,
That's when good neighbours become good friends.

...I don't speak to my neighbours, probably nice people, but I just wave out the car window, keep my head down and then scuttle in through the back door. Just because you live next door to someone in the same street doesn't mean that you have anything else in common - some people don't get it.

You can only talk about the dustmen or street cleaners for so long before you start staring blankly into their eyes thinking of ways to mess up their garden - I do anyway.

Your point is well taken! Basically, I've always kept to myself, except for waving back to neighbors who wave at me, but the idea of anyone just feeling like they can make a problem for someone else just because they feel like it really rubbed me the wrong way. After all, I've minded my business and would never have noticed such stuff. Indeed, if anyone ever told me it would happen, I would have laughed in their faces.

I try to avoid eye contact with my neighbours. I simply refuse to be sociable. Isn't that horrid of me?

Not at all! I don't bother to look at mine nor do they look at me. I mind my business and they mind theirs, except for blabbermouth. She is the so-called neighbor from hell and so is the rest of her clan, a nasty, spiteful bunch to be avoided as much as possible.

I say hello to my neighbors, ect. but that's about it. I'm from the south, so I guess we generally expect it more, and are more accustomed to it. I don't like most people though, so that tends to put a damper on things.
