How's The Forum For You?

The 'new' Shiola forum has now been going for about 6 months on the new software and new web hosting and I just wanted to make sure everyone is happy with everything and if anyone had any comments. I think the new webhosting is the biggest improvement as some older members will remember making cups of tea inbetween clicking links to open pages.

Is there anything you'd like to change? Graphics, colours, text, layout, avatars, emoticons? Whatabout the content? Is there any new sections you'd like or anything like that? Is the newsletter once a week on Friday OK? I only link to 3 threads in there - do you want more or is 3 OK? Maybe you've seen something on another forum that you'd like to see here.

I'm going to look at potential additions I can make to the forum to make it more fun and interesting - I'll ask for your opinions before I add anything.

You may have noticed there is a stray 'RSS' link on the forum home page, I'm currently working on getting this forum accessible by RSS readers, so those of you that have them can see new posts via their RSS reader - I need to do some more learning though to get it working! ;)

Anyway, feel free to say what you like about anything to do with the forum, don't be shy!

If you hit 'Post Reply' then in the bar with all the formatting options, you'll see a smiley face - click the arrow next to it and you'll get a list of about 20 emoticons - at the bottom of that list is a link to display ALL of them.

I'll see if I can make it more visible.

I remember on the old forum there was a link for the smilies, when you click on post reply and when you click on the link all of the similies would show up and you could click on which one you wanted to use. I hope that made sense.

I turned HTML off because I heard that some forums had been hacked or at least screwed up if they allow users to post HTML. I think you can do all the formatting you need, plus attach images - was there anything else you'd want HTML for?

I like the forum as is, Ben.

The only thing I have noticed
is sometimes when posting that the text editor will
not allow me to post images without adding "at least five characters".

And also the text editor will change the font type from verdana (size 2)
to arial (size 1) or any variation, often without my being able to change it back. :smt104

Static - I did put a 5 character limit on posts to try and discourage boring replies such as 'Yes' and 'No'....but you can always just put 'Yes...' and 'No...' to get around it, so it doesn't really work.
I've also noticed strange font errors when using bullet lists and stuff. I'll have a look into it.

Boudicca - HTML is the code that is used to build webpages. VB Code is special code that can be used on forums to change text (eg. bold, underline, colour, etc). VB Code doesn't screw up the page, whereas if I allowed HTML code, then some people could screw up a page, or add shit that shouldn't be there.

Ben, I enjoy this site, it helps waste close to 10 hours a week when I am not working. I thank you, and I am sure the tax payers thank you too. Silly tax payers, and their ideas that they should get returns on their money. The only thing I can't do is add a custom avatar, but that could be the tard in me.

You can change your avatar anytime you want (or request me to do it if you can't) - I'm just saying you get a custom Shiola one when you reach 100 posts, and no more custom ones after that otherwise I'll be spending all my time making avatars.
