The whole of Shiola.com is now on a new server which is faster - hope you all notice the difference.

The Forum has also been moved from phpBB to vBulletin. Nothing against phpBB, it's good software, but VB has loads of features pre-installed, plus I think there are less security updates and shite like that.

Anyway, I'll give you the lowdown on the forum move to this new software.

Good Things

More forum features
All the old posts were moved over and your post counts remain the same.
Your logins and passwords should all be the same.
You should stay logged in and not get kicked out - Dontpanic I have my fingers crossed on this one until you give me the OK.
The whole forum should be fast

Bad, but not Terrible, Things

The avatars were not moved over, so I need to upload all of them. I'll let you know when I've done that. I'll add 'Shiola Centurion' avatars myself, I think I remember who had what.
The attachments could not be moved. I'll try and add these manually to old posts as there weren't that many. You can still add new ones though.
All my posts go to zero as there is some administrator import issue. So when you see 'imported_shiola' posts they're all my old ones. No big deal.
The 'Members List' link above does not seem to be working properly - I'll have a look into that.
That's about it. I want to add a 'Quick Post' modification to the forum as that was really handy. I'm also going to start redesigning it so it fits in with the rest of the site, probably tonight as I'm really anal about pages having the same design and stuff.

Please have a look around and try stuff out. If you find something that doesn't work or you don't understand, just reply to this thread and let me know.

If this forum is better than it used to be and it all works perfectly, then let me know too!

I've still got some fine tuning to do as there's a whole load of little images that either don't mean shit or are so unimportant that they need to be removed. At least it's up and running.

The 'Quick Post' thing is up, plus the Memberlist link works now.

Well, I logged in for the first time since the move yesterday, and I got to read about 3 or 4 threads before being logged out. So, umm... I'm giving it another go right now. I have faith, though. Wish me luck!

aww... faith is dashed. I have been logged out twice this morning. how unfortunate! the site is much faster, though. i got pretty used to being logged out all the time, so now I just copy all of my posts that are longer than one line so that if I get logged out while in the process of posting, I can just log back in and paste the post I had typed.

Dontpanic - it must be something to do with your browser or computer. This is a new server and new software, although didn't you say you don't get logged out of other places? Bollocks. Try checking your cookie settings and stuff like that? Maybe Static has some ideas as he seems pretty technically savvy.

Yes DP's browser settings may need to be checked as well as any firewalls you may have in place
As often both features are less discerning than we would like, they tend to block certain things like cookies which may be useful for viewing certain websites.

Actually, I am resigned to the idea that it likely is just me. I have a shitty dial-up service and I live in the middle of nowhere. I did tell y'all I live on a dirt road, right? We can't get cable at all and dsl isn't available here, either. But I do plan to move back to the city soon and shall get cable internet. So, I'll try to limit my complaints until then.

Hammer - If you let us know what browser you're using that may help. If it doesn't, then you'll just have to type quicker.

I've uploaded all the smilies and the avatars - so get stuck in and add one now. I'm going to contact all the posters with 100 or more posts so you can get a Shiola avatar if you wish.
