I've got a couple of things I want to do for the year ahead and if you have any other ideas or suggestions, etc, then let me know.

1) New webhost. I'm sick of this one (supanames.co.uk), I get timeouts every now and again, database is down, this forum can be as slow as fuck sometimes. They don't go out there way to help either, I have to bitch and I hate bitching. If anyone has some recommendations, then let me know.

2) New forum software. I only really just thought about this. The phpBB is doing well, but maybe I should stick my hand in my wallet and fork out for something quicker with more features and that doesn't require me to update stuff, rather the forum provider does it. I'm getting lazy in my old age.

3) More features on the actual site. This year I concentrated on the forum to get something half decent going, and I'm pretty pleased with how it's gone, but if you check out the http://www.shiola.co.uk/whatsnew.shtml page, you'll discover a shocking lack of attention to other areas of the site. I have some ideas brewing, just haven't found the time to do them. I'm also going to put together a 'Clothing Directory' to help earn money for the site (as I'm bored of porn earning this site's keep) and ensure all of us look cool and wicked.

4) Home page redesign. I may redesign the home page slightly to fit in more content rather than the simple list of features.

5) Add new poll software. I've already got it up and running, just haven't had time to switch the old polls to the new software.

6) Chatroom. Some people here requested a chatroom so I'll look into that and see what the score is. If anyone knows of some decent sofware then let me know. Maybe there's a forum that includes a chatroom too for members? Maybe phpbb has this facility?

UM yeaaaaah... I know nothing about this stuff, but two things you mentioned... a chat room - COOL! And that this site is "slow as fuck sometimes" YES IT IS holy crap I thought it was just me but this is the only site I ever have this much trouble with! Oh well I still come back LOL

Try Compila.com We use them for www.thesnot.co.uk and they are really cool. We have crossed the line a few times and technically they could have closed us down but instead talked to us and got it sorted out.

2) New forum software.

Can't see the point Ben. PhpBB is great software. The new BETA version is the dog's hanging basket and once you sort out a decent provider the speed will pick up.

Yeah, I have nothing against phpBB it's easy to use and manage. Do you know when the new version is going to be released? I assume they're going to make it easy to upgrade to it from this v2.

I'm going to sort out the hosting first, so if the forum speeds up then there's no need to change software.

I actually downloaded a Stats mod yesterday which I'll add on later. If you have any other suggestions then check out www.phpbbhacks.com and link to the one you like and I'll THINK about addig it - I don't want to go crazy and add everything as there's better things I could be doing with my time eg. taking photos of my mouse with a lump of cheese.

I have been in the process of developing my own website and have looked at the options that are for Free Web Hosting mostly as I don't want to spend much money up front until I have a need to do so. This seems like one of the better ones I have found so far, they offer a ton of space compared to even what my own ISP service offers with my account, and the upgrades to premium memberships are affordable. Looks like it has phpbb compatibility also. And the option to use your current domain name is avail as well. Tell me what you guys think as I am looking for options for myself as well, and could use the help. Thx!
Can't hurt to check this one out at least if your unhappy with your current host.
I will say sometimes it takes forever for Shiola site to upload or download certain things and sometimes I will get error messages in IE. But overall I don't care as I like the website Ben. Whoohoo!

I've been doing some behind the scenes stuff and I have new hosting lined up from a super wicked geezer, plus I've decided to go for new forum software (http://www.vbulletin.com) because there's some new secruity issue with phpBB and I can't be arsed with it. So if this site gets hacked in the meantime - fuck it, I don't care. I've backed it up and can move everything over to the new forum.

All this will probably get done in the first or second week of January. All the posts will remain, as will your usernames, avatars, passwords and everything. The only change will be the actual software - which will be faster, show the right time, won't have security issues, won't log you out for no reason, etc, etc.

In 2005, Shiola.com is going to mean business.

Yeah the site lags like crazy. Takes a long time to upload and getting kicked off while posting a msg or surfing in another window sucks. I still like coming here but would like to post or read as quickly as possible so I can get on with the rest of my life y'know? Help Ben! Help!

OK, guys and girls. The Big Time is here.

I have new webspace - plus I have new software - plus I have it all setup - so just now I started the process of repointing the hallowed shiola.co.uk domain name. Hopefully, in a day or two there will be a new dawn.....a new era......is this the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning....or as Churchill said, 'Shiola.com is the end of the end'.

No more two window, double time action.

Now I've hyped it to da max - watch it fall in a Betamax style.
